What to wear on a date with the Southwest...

JR and I recently got to go on a little road trip to the American Southwest. I'm trying to pack minimally these days, and I've succeeded in packing everything (Yes! Everything!) into the little suitcase I usually use as a camera bag.

What to wear on a road trip to Santa Fe

And that dress? I thrifted that in Denver and basically lived in it the entire trip. It's a square dancing dress from the 1950's.

More pictures to come as I sort them out.

Spring is here!

Spring's First Blooms

The trees still look bare but if you look closely you'll see that there are Violets on the ground and the very first flowers are peeking up their shy blooms.

I updated my FAQ to answer a few questions I had emailed to me as well. You can check that out here.

Week 11 - 50 Crafts/52 Weeks

I've been to busy crafting to blog about crafting, which isn't a bad thing, right?

For craft eleven I finished these feather earrings:

Craft twelve is part one of a three part craft - I finished writing a children's fairy tale that I told my 4th grade class. I am halfway through part two, also known as craft thirteen - illustrating it. I'll probably post the illustrations as a picture but I'm not interested in posting the story since it's just for those kids at school. The third part will be putting it together in a book format to publish to give to my kids. I hope to have this huge project finished by the end of next week.

I've also been working on learning Logic and gathering a small home recording studio, which is more of a project and less of a craft but when I have a song written and recorded I'll post it here as a craft as well. Perhaps I should have called this challenge 50 creations since I'm counting things like songwriting and story making. The idea was to get me creating more and it really has been!

It's week eleven, and I'm right on track so I'm happy!

"So's your old man"

I feel like in some way this blog features random stuff I find in random places - but this little lady was far to pretty to keep off the blog.

I am not really a ukulele sort of person - I have not clue how to play it and have to get it re-strung before I can even attempt it but she was inexpensive enough and it had that great little flapper inked on it!

There's a little saying penciled on it "So's your old man" which just might be the 1920's equivalent of "your dad." I may just have unearthed the original "your dad" joke...this is an important anthropological discovery among my friends.

a rare day...

JR never lets me take pictures of him, but he's a pretty attractive guy, no?

So I was delighted when he let me take a few pictures of him, and then a few of us, too, since I have next to none.

Small Town Treasure...

Somewhere in the tiny town of La Salle, Colorado...

La Salle, Colorado

there is an itty bitty little thrift store that holds a lot of funny little treasures.

This week's treasure was this funny little Omnichord. It was shoved in a case in the corner of the room. I dug it out, brushed it off and decided it would be a nice addition to my collection of strings.

An Omnichord is a ridiculous little instrument that is sort of like an electric synth/harp that is played by pushing the chord buttons and then running your fingers along the touchpad on the right.

Here's a sample if you want to hear what they sound like -It's Au Revior Simone playing Dark Halls. Listen for the Omnichord!

Week 9 - 50 Crafts/52 Weeks

I think I just made the ugliest thing I've ever made. I'm not sure what I was thinking.

The Worst Shirt Ever

Actually, I know exactly what I was thinking - I wanted to rip up some shirts and see how well my machine could handle jersey.

The Worst Shirt EverThe Worst Shirt Ever

I tried it on, JR tried it on and we decided it was just a bad idea. I think it's going in the trash.

Other people have been working on more respectable, non-ugly crafts.

Fifty First Crafts worked on lots of little dolls and some adorable mushroom pin cushions, perfect for the nintendo players in your life.

Okac is on her 11th craft - an easter wreath.

Studio Marlowe finished her samantha sweater!

Morgan made a headband.

Maggie is still working on her lace projects! They are beautiful, and I think this purple lace is my favorite so far.

Bunni Garu has made some lovely paintings!

Have I missed anyone? If so please let me know!

I realized I never posted many of the pictures from our trip to Asia last year and I thought these deserved a place on my blog for your enjoyment.

Past a certain point the trails are kept by the Downhill MTB community.

Some of the trails are rerouted by giant mudslides. I wish I had a picture of the mudslide face.

Daily Decadence

Every day I eat bring four squares of chocolate with my lunch to eat as dessert. Some days I eat all four and some days I give half away to deserving individuals.

This week while grocery shopping my husband purchased twice as many bars as he usually does. Then, when I got to school the person I most often share my chocolate with had three bars waiting for me. Now I am all stocked up and need to practice self control to make sure that doesn't disappear in one weekend.

I like the flavor of chocolate, I could care less about how sweet it is, so the darker the better.
